The Avenue Road Estate Regeneration Engagement programme has been designed to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of estate engagement work through improved communication and increased collaboration.

This will ensure that Avenue Road Estate residents are informed, consulted and engaged and able to influence decisions and/or proposals regarding the Avenue Road Estate. We want to make it easier for residents to see how your views have influenced decisions and/or proposals. 

The Engagement Programme will ensure all Waltham Forest Council officers and external project teams/consultants adhere to the Engagement Programme’s Guiding Principles when engaging with residents and stakeholders.

We have produced a draft Avenue Road Estate Regeneration Engagement Strategy which was embedded in the engagement programme by summer 2020. This proposes the following key principles:

To provide all residents and stakeholders with balanced and objective information to assist in understanding processes, issues, options or solutions around estate regeneration.

To present viable options relevant to agreed priorities and record residents' and stakeholders' feedback. All feedback will be taken into consideration in the shaping of the proposals and residents will be kept informed about how their input influences decisions.

It is fundamental that we engage with all residents and groups at Avenue Road Estate. An estate regeneration programme will impact on all Avenue Road Estate residents and stakeholders. The residents and stakeholders on Avenue Road Estate are economically, socially and culturally diverse and we will ensure that all groups are engaged in the regeneration process. This will involve adopting a wide range of consultation and engagement methods and mechanisms to ensure that all material is accessible to everyone, jargon free and translated into the main community languages.

We are committed to being open and honest with Avenue Road Estate residents and stakeholders. The process will clearly set out our plans and aspirations. It is important to be clear about the nature, level and type of decisions that the community will be able to influence in the Avenue Road Estate regeneration planning process. We will provide regular feedback to the estate neighbourhood about how the plans have developed and how views and comments have been taken on board giving the neighbourhood a sense of ownership.

The engagement process is a continuum that will run throughout the estate regeneration programme, whilst establishing the framework for the future. The key principle of the estate regeneration strategy is to establish inclusive and meaningful relationships with all residents and stakeholders.

The ability to listen is the key difference between meaningful engagement rather than just informing the community on a set of proposals. We are committed to listening and recording the community’s hopes and aspirations for the future, this will set the tone for the process in the future.

We are committed to setting new standards for estate regeneration projects. All aspects of the process should look to set a new benchmark for reach, quality and expertise. The engagement process is an integral part of that. There will be a wide range of consultation techniques and mechanisms adopted including an innovative use of the internet.
